The Fergusson Gallery in Perth houses the world's largest collection of work by the celebrated Scottish artist, John Duncan Fergusson. This forms part of the entire collection of Perth and Kinross Council's Heritage Service. The former waterworks was converted to an art gallery in 1992. The rain was on which was the last thing needed as the joiners worked on the timber kit. However they were undeterred by the weather and carried on regardless.

The concreting of the floors was undertaken on day ten. It arrived by lorry was poured and vibrated then spread out and polished. The rain arrived later in the day but did not stop play. A good smooth surface was achieved, ideal for the superstructure.

The concrete is raked into position. Wellies are a must!

Perth Cottage New Build Day Six Blockwork
At last with day six and the foundations done, Ian and David start on the blockwork. The blocks arrived early and were lifted off the lorry by mechanical lifter. Ian set up his string lines and as David mixed the mortar the first blocks were laid in the corners.

David unties and sorts the blocks as the cement mixer churns away. Again were fortunate with the weather, warm and sunny.

Perth Cottage New Build Day Five Concrete Pour
This was the day that the concrete for the foundations arrived. Delivery was by a big bowser from a local Perth Company. This was then transfered into a small dumper which buzzed around the site pouring the concrete exactly where it was needed.

David drove the dumper, Ian had the wellies on directing the pour and tamping down the concrete. Steel mesh reinforcing was placed in the foundations to strengthen them.
The sun was shining all day, we even had to wet the concrete to stop it drying out too quick. A small frog was about to be entombed in concrete when all work stopped to save himm. He hopped away without a thanks! Cheek!
