The Wolf of Badenoch

Located in the Dunkeld Cathedral,  The Wolf of Badenoch . Born Alexander Stewart, Earl of Buchan, was born in 1342, son of King Robert 11 of Scotland. In 1372 he was appointed Kings lieutenant and made Earl of Buchan on his marriage to Euphemia, countess of Ross.
Alexander deserted his wife for Mariotte Athyn, who bore him six children. As a result he was excommunicated. In revenge he burned the towns of Forres and Elgin in 1390 and sacked Elgin Cathedral. He was in the end forced to submit and make repatriation, doing public penance in sackcloth and ashes at the Blackfriars Monastry in Perth in the presence of his brother King Robert 111
